Darren Weaver
Pastor
Darren Weaver received the call to become Senior Pastor of First Baptist Slaton in June of 2023. He is the 20th person to hold the office of Senior Pastor at FBC Slaton since it was established in 1911. Pastor Weaver was ordained as a deacon at Calvary Baptist in Lubbock, then moved on to Oakwood Baptist Deaf Mission. He attended Wayland Baptist University for undergraduate work, receiving a Bachelor of Christian Ministry. While completing undergraduate work, he was called to Calvary Baptist in Post as Senior Pastor. He then attended Hardin Simmons University, where he received his Master of Divinity in Spiritual Care and Counseling. During his graduate education, he was called as Senior Pastor of Forsan Baptist Church, where he served for twelve years. First Baptist Slaton is his fourth ministry position, and his third as Senior Pastor.
Darren has been happily married to Holly since 1991, with one teenage son, Matthew. They live in Slaton, just a few blocks from the church. Here is what he had to say about the church and the community:
“We are truly home. Holly and I lived in the Lubbock area for twenty years, so the South Plains is as comfortable as a warm fireplace in winter. We love living in Slaton, being involved in the community and ministering to the people here. Even though we’ve only been here for a couple of years, it feels like we’ve known the people for a lifetime. We are blessed that God brought us to Slaton, and look forward to what God continues to do in the church and in the community.”
Darren currently serves as President of the Slaton Ministerial Alliance, is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the local chapter of Lion’s Club. He volunteers monthly at the Slaton Housing Authority Food Bank, and participates in an after-school Bible study program at Cathelene Thomas Elementary School. He loves to watch hockey and baseball with his wife, and loves to fish, play golf, tennis, and work out at the gym with Matthew. He and Matthew also love to build and do woodworking projects around the house.
